Why use Bestbox

An ongoing problem in the construction industry is the time wasted by all the relevant trades in keeping metal back boxes clear from debris. These boxes are placed in the wall and used as connection points for electrical cables and wiring accessories.

The Electrician wires the boxes leaving usually around 9 inches of cable ends curled up in the box. The Plasterer goes to work and invariably fills the box with plaster. The Electrician comes back when the plaster is dry to fit the socket or switch and usually finds the following has occurred:

  1. The box is totally covered by plaster and the cables need to be traced.
  2. The box is visible but covered in plaster (especially the terminals) creating more work cleaning out the boxes.
  3. The cables are damaged, the worst scenario!

A tiler can cause even more disruption. If the tile encroaches within the box it has to be trimmed, and there is a very good chance that the whole tile will break.

The Bestbox would eradicate these problems

How it works
It is a plastic box with a handle. It fits in the metal box, covering it completely, and projects out of the wall by around 20mm giving the plasterer a line to go to. Once the plaster is dry, the electrician returns. The Bestbox is simply pulled off of the metal box (ready for re-use) and the socket can be fixed to a clean environment. The plaster is undamaged and everybody’s valuable time is undiminished

Testing
Various prototypes of the Bestbox were tested on site, at professional building and redevelopment sites. Improvements included: with and without additional screw fittings, changing the Bestbox's construction material, reducing plaster adhesion, shrinkage and expansion resistance at varying temperatures.
